by gordonilla

The gallery comes from the orginal bequest to the Finnish people by Professor Fredrik Cygnaeus (1807-1881). He gave the people his collection of 200 pieces of work along with his wooden summerhouse. This is the home of the current collection, which has now grown to 450 pieces of art - 19th century Finnish paintings and sculpture.

It opened it's doors in 1882, and is in fact Finland's oldest art museum.
