"On the road" Russia Transportation Tip by Pavlik_NL

Trains can get you in most larger towns, however roadtraffic is still underdevelopped and chaotically dangerous. Especially as a non-Russian it is not that safe to travel by car. Corrupt police, but also common robbers will be waiting for you. However, everything is possible. Busstravels are limitted and when you do not speak Russian it is not recommended. When however you speak some Russian or like to live adventurously, you also might try the widely spread car-sharing. Russian car-owners often pick up people to drive them to a place along their own route. This is done against a very fair price that has to be negotiated before starting to drive. It is however amazing how quickly a car stops, when you stick out your hand along a major road.
