Winchester Cathedral is a dominant feature of Winchester. It actually dates from 1079 when the Norman structure was built. This Norman architecture can be seen in the transepts and the crypt. The Norman part was much lower so you can see how the Gothic rises above it. We were shown the Holy Hole which is a small tunnel with relicts. The tunnel forces people to enter in a proper humble position. We saw Jane Austin's tomb in here and the stained glass window above it has St. Augustine, patron saint of the family. There are also scenes in it from the Psalms and King David. Her father was a preacher. While in Winchester, you can see Jane Austin's house where she lived the last 6 weeks before she died on July 18th, 1817.
