  Valley of Kings
by suku93

Valley of the kings in Luxor is a must-see for any visitor. Monuments and tombs at Luxor are from the Middle and new kingdom as opposed to the ones like Giza pyramids which are from the old kingdom.

After the old kingdom, kings stopped building pyramids (like ones at Giza) and began to search for alternate structures. Because of the historical importance of the pyramid shape and owing to the 'pyramid-shaped' mountains at Luxor, these mountains were chosen to construct a series of tombs (i.e burial places). These mountains has come to be known as the Valley of Kings.

There are many tombs that are still being unearthed in the valley! and you can see people working on these at the top of the valley when you walk from one tomb to another.

If you are visiting during the summer, be prepared for the extreme heat at this place - when I went in August, temperatures would probably have touched abotu 40-45C! You will have to walk under the sun to reach all the tombs and there is no shade to rest except at the beginning

Keep drinking a lot of water (even if you dont fee thirsty) and its good to have some wet wipes to refresh you after the visit.
