  Sandringham across lake and gardens

Sandringham is the country retreat of HM The Queen. It has 60 acres of beautiful grounds and gardens. The first tour through the house is not until 11:00 but you can look at the grounds first. We looked at the stables that are now the museum. The royal yacht is in the garage and the carriage house with the royal carriages is also here. Cars used by the Royall family through the years are here including an MC, Rover and more. In the house, the public rooms were on the tour. There are wonderful collections here such as porcelains and the Duke's bird collection which includes a bronze bird that was the 50th anniversary gift. We also saw the main Drawing Room which is used by The Queen. We are here in June. We were told she would be here in July for the Flower Show. Outside the grounds were outstanding with Rhododendrons, Foxgloves, and huge old Wisteria in full bloom. The formal north gardens laid out in squares had blooming roses, geraniums, iris, primroses, mints, and salvias. We also saw a few birds here such as the Great spotted Woodpecker and Greenfinch. Unfortunately there were also small children here on school field trips. It's a shame they don't behave better while on these trips.

Directions: Go North from King's Lynn on Hwy A149 and follow signs.
