"Castel Capuano & Porta Capuana" Capuano Castle Tip by Willettsworld

Capuano Castle, Naples: 4 reviews and 7 photos

Begun by Norman King William I in the 12th century and completed by Frederick II, Castel Capuano was a royal palace until 1540 when it became the Court of Justice. Today it functions as a courthouse.

Nearby stands the defensive gate, Porta Capuana which is a rare sculpture in the Florentine-Renaissance manner. It was created by Giuliano da Maiano and later finished, in 1490, by Luca Fancelli.
