  St Catherines Chapel

The history of St Catherines Chapel is quite sketchy, its believed it was built in the 1300s, probably on the site of a Pagan Temple. You can see the Chapel from miles around, with it sitting alone 250 feet on top of a large hill, she is quite a landmark.

The views from here are wonderful overlooking the Fleet (lagoon) and Chesil beach and of course the rolling countryside.

I have read that many places of worship which are called St Catherines are on hills, the connection being St Catherines Monastery in Sinai, Egypt. I dont know how true this is.

Directions:

Near Abbotsbury, South Dorset.
