Welcome to the superlative ropeway
By building the most spectacular tricable loop ropeway in the world Kitzbühel has exceeded expectations!
Kitzbühel is the number 1 winter sports destination for more than 1 mill. people each year. At the beginning of the winter season 2004/05 the long cherished vision to link the two ski areas of Hahnenkamm/Pengelstein and Jochberg/Resterhöhe via a ropeway became a reality at last.
By inaugurating the world's most spectacular tricable loop ropeway in December 2004, Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel, Austria's largest ropeway company, added a whole new dimension to winter delights
This unique project constitutes the 'artery' of the interconnected Kitzbühel ski areas. The set goal to link the ski areas and, in doing so, to make the ski safari skiable in both directions has been finally achieved with the new 3S ropeway.
The latest developments in ropeway engineering have made it possible to span the valley in its entire width. The combination of gigantic clearance (up to 400 metres) above the Saukasergraben valley and enormous span (about 2500 metres from tower to tower) make this new ropeway so special. Besides the valley and mountain stations featuring one supporting tower each, only one intermediate tower was necessary in order to span the 3.7 kilometres. For this gigantic project, the latest technology of Doppelmayr, a partner of the Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel for many years, came into operation.
The 24 gondolas (with a maximum carrier capacity of up to 30 persons) are supported by two track ropes ¯ like on rails ¯ and drawn by a haul rope. This makes it possible to transport up to 4,200 winter sports aficionados per hour.
