If you want a change from Kefalonia itself, ferries are available to several places. The 'commuter' ferry to Lixouri (ok, that's still Kefalonia), to the small sister island of Ithaca, to Zakynthos, to Lefkada and to the mainland. Connections are also available to Italy.

Tickets for Lixouri are purchased on the ferry: tickets for other destinations at tickets booths at the harbour, or ticket offices (several in Argostoli, some in other towns).

In the first picture I was about halfway to Lixouri. The Argostoli peninsula is on the right, as is the return boat from Lixouri.

Second picture is Poros from the ferry to Killini. As you can see, the hills rise very steeply at the back.

Third picture is Pessada harbour for the ferry to Zakynthos. Had though of a daytrip, but ferries only left early morning (0730, i think) and evening, so no go. Note picture does not contain actual ferry ;-)

Fourth is the German cruise liner Aida, sailing out from Argostoli. It was too big to berth, so I saw the passengers being tendered out to it.

Fifth is the view from the upper deck to Argostoli, waiting to depart for Lixouri.
