The warmest welcome I had was here, at the Mountain Hut at Alesjaure. We had a short hike to get here, so we arrived very early in the day (around 1:30 in the afternoon). Most hikers don't arrive before 4 o'clock in the afternoon, so it was rather quiet at the Mountain Hut. But the welcome of the staff was so nice and heart warming. I felt at home here right away!

Even if the shop was officially closed for lunch break, they opened it up for us, so we could do some food shopping. They offered to start up the sauna whenever we wanted (normal opening hours after 5 o'clock in the afternoon) and pointed out that camping just outside the Mountain Hut area would be for free! A perfect combination of having the luxury of the Hut in the area, but without paying the camping fee. So nice of them!

So that's what we did! We crossed the bridge over the river and set up our tent. A big and good lunch was prepared in the kitchen and we enjoyed a lazy afternoon.

Collecting water and using the toilets at the Mountain Hut is for free. If you want to use their kitchen you do have to pay a service fee of 40 SEK per person. The sauna costs 50 SEK per person. (more about that on my Alesjaure page). And the view you have from here is priceless!

Unique Qualities:
Alesjaure is a rather big station along the hiking trail Kungsleden. In consists of four log cabins offering a total of 86 beds. It has its own little camp area, but most campers stay across the river, which is free of charge (See The Right of Public Access in the General Tips on my Norbotten page).

The kitchen is big with two cooking areas and several dining tables. It is located in one of the log cabins. Around the cabins there are many little benches from where you can enjoy the view. And those views are wonderful, so do sit down to enjoy them.

The shop is small, but rather big compared to other Mountain Huts, offering a bigger selection of foods --> so go shop! And enjoy all those things you've missed over the last few days, like chocolate and other goodies :-))

The Mountain Hut has a seperate sauna (50 SEK per person) with bathing in the ice-cold river to cool off.... hahaha, if you dare doing that of course ;-)

Like all the Mountain Huts in the area, Alesjaure doesn't have electricity or running water. So be prepared and have all your batteries for your camera charged before you start on your trip. Fresh water is collected from the river. And there is no better tasting water than the water from the Fjällen! It's clean, it's clear and tastes delicious! :-)

Approx. half of June until half of September +
End February till the end of April.
