Known as "Hollywood in the Desert," Old Tucson Studios is "where the reel West meets the real West." Old Tucson Studios has been the setting for hundreds of major motion pictures, and has played host to actors from John Wayne to Clint Eastwood.

Old Tucson Studios was established in 1939 when Columbia Pictures chose the site to build a replica of 1860s Tucson for the movie Arizona. It was one of the first movies ever filmed on location, and was the first of hundreds of Westerns subsequently filmed here.

Although it is still an active studio, visitors can tour the town; watch stunt shows, gun fights, and musical revues; have a drink in the Grand Palace Saloon; take a guided studio tour; dress up in Western clothing for an old-time picture; and purchase souvenirs of the Old West.

Unfortunately, when I arrived at Old Tucson Studios, it was closed, so I was only able to take a picture of the entrance.

Directions: Old Tucson Studios is located at 201 South Kinney Road, about 12 miles (19 kilometers) west of Tucson.
