  working on batik, Bali

All over Indonesia, especially Bali there are lots and lots of batik shops. There are two different kinds of batik. One that is printed, which is cheaper and the other that is hand done where wax is drawn onto cloth. Then the cloth is dipped into a color dye. The complex batik pieces are truly beautiful and pieces of art. You can usually find shirts, sarongs, table cloths and scarves made from batik. Batik is usually printed on cotton and silk.

Beware of large batik warehouses or huge shopping centers. There can be some good pieces here, but your guide probably gets a comission. If you want quality, you may want to find a more reputable batik store.
