"Mt. Etna" Sicilia Things to Do Tip by sswagner

This massive volcano erupted as recently as 2004, so it is very active and it is only a matter of time until it sends lava down its sides again. Mt. Etna is available for touring, and many bus tours include a visit to its slopes. This is a great place to see forces of nature at work and admire the moonlike landscape that resulted from the volcanic activity. Beyond a certain area, you will not see any more houses or farms due to all of the lava flows. The lower slopes contain forests of various types and eventually these give way to sparse vegetation and rock all of the way to the top.
