At the top at the St. Pietersberg you find ?Casino Slavante? a picturesque old clubhouse. Dating from 1846 it has that typical atmosphere reminding you of the rich bourgeoisie from the ninetheenth century: it was the place where the noblemen gathered with their fiancées as starting point to have a walk at the hill, overlooking the river Maas from the terraces while using a ?refreshment.? Originally the place was a Cloister belonging to the Fransiscan monastic order. During the good old 19 th century many rich and famous upper-class personalities visited the place such the Dutch King William II; his lady Sophie, the dutch Queen Emma and many others. The gardens, the interior of the ?Grand Café,? the way the staff treats you breathes out this glamorous history. Nowadays many people visit the Casino in combination with a tour into the renowned caves of St Pietersberg.

Favorite Dish: Maastricht "zoervleis" with French fries and salad its a typical Maastricht dish that u wont find anywhere else like that. but its not haut cuisine.
