We spent most of our time in Venice just walking around the city and enjoying its atmosphere. We had a map, but to be honest we managed to get lost at least three times an hour! This meant that we got to see lots of parts of the city that we might have missed had we followed a strict itinerary and tried to concentrate on getting from A to B. There are so many lovely little squares and canals that it seems a shame not to amble about and try and discover them. And if you get just a few minutes walk away from St. Marks or the Rialto Bridge, you find you have the streets almost to yourself.
