Picollo Roma: "Italian you want to miss on" Chiang Mai Restaurant Tip by foodie05

Service was disappointing and owner's attitude was a big miss.

Went there with my family (including a 2 year old daughter) and after being greeted by the staff, was asked to speak to the owner about seating (which I thought was strange). Italian owner told us that we had to sit outside as there were no tables available inside. We obliged despite misgivings about mosquitoes as we really wanted to sample the cuisine. To our surprise, when we used the restroom, there were several tables available inside. Despite asking to be reseated indoors (to avoid having my daughter feasted on by mosquitos), we were not accomodated. (Tables were not reserved) Staff kept on telling us to speak to the owner if we wanted to be reseated (again, strange). Felt almost as though they were filtering clientelle who could sit indoors vs. those sitting outdoors. We were properly dressed, so I am not sure what the deal was. Asked to speak to the Italian owner several times, but after waiting many minutes, he did not come out to speak with us. Decided to just pay the bill and head off, but went to speak to him to express our disappointment. Heated exchange ensued where he cared nothing for our business, was quite upset that we wanted to be reseated and essentially told us to take a hike.

Am writing this note as we felt quite discriminated against at this restaurant and wanted to warn others who are considering it. It was possibly because we were the only ones with a young child with us during dinner, and perhaps the owner did not want us disturbing the atmosphere of the dining area. Am not sure if being Asian had anything to do with it, but we were the only ones there. Would not have minded seating outside so much (as never make a deal out of these things), but mosquitos were all over my kid and we would have taken any table inside just to continue the meal without subjecting her to mosquito attacks. Nevertheless, no excuse for owner's attitude and impoliteness.

This is definitely a place to miss out on.
