Climbing The Duomo, Florence: 28 reviews and 60 photos

The top of the dome, which can be reached by climbing over 400 steps, offers spectacular views over the city, was designed by Brunelleschi and is 91m (296 ft). It was finished in 1463 and was the largest of its time to be built without scaffolding. The outer shell is supported by a thicker inner shell that acts as a platform for it.
