In 1984 we flew to Iraklion and hired a motorbike. We toured extensively, staying in different places every couple of days.
We thought the motorbike was something like a 150cc. and wondered why it struggled over some of the mountain roads. There was a sticker over the engine capacity which gradually wore off as the holiday progressed. It turned out it was only a 50cc.!!!! Still, it did us proud, two up with rucksak and all. We were never offered helmets and in those days we didn't even think about it, being young and foolish. Fortunately we didn't come to grief (Nick knew how to handle a bike) but I wouldn't do it now without helmet.
