Favorite thing: The castle was built in 1056, by order of Alberto Azzo d'Este, and then reconstructed several times in the 12th and 13th century. After d'Este family moved to Ferrara the castle was destroyed in wars against Padova and Scaligeri of Verona. Finally it bacame the property of Ubertino da Carraro who made major reconstructions in 1339 by building defending walls and towers around the castle, giving it its present appearence.
In the 16th century the castle was bought by the noble Venetian family Mocenigo, who destroyed part of the walls and defensive towers in order to built a palace. Palazzo Mocenigo is nowadays the home of Museo Nazionale Atestino, preserving valuable artefacts from Veneti.
