This beautiful building's called Kapetan Mi?ino zdanje (Captain Mi?a's Building). Mi?a Anastasijevic (1803-1885), a merchant and shipowner, the richest man in Serbia of his times, had it built between 1858 and 1863, according to the designs of Jan Nevole.

The building has always had educational and cultural purposes. It was the seat of Ministry of Education for some time, then Great School (predecessor of the University), National MUseum, Art Gallery and Library. Today, there's the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade and parts of the Faculty of Philosophy.
