Oslo Things to Do: 1,242 reviews and 2,527 photos
This is all that is left of the old Oslo. Before a fire that ravaged the city in 1624 this was where the majority of residents of Oslo lived. There are a number of remaining buildings from the time period, now only in ruins. Excavations have uncovered various townhouses and timber structures that used to exist here.
In about 1300, Oslo had rougly 3000 adult inhabitants. At the time, there were two parish churches, three monastery churches and a hostpital church in the city. In addition, Oslo was the home of St. Mary’s Church, St. Hallvard’s Cathedral and a small church known as St. Nicolas’s Church. There was also a monastery complex on the island of Hovedøya.
Directions: Just between the base of Ekeberg hill and the central train station.
