Take an afternoon and go to the monument park. It cost $5 to go into the park during it's operating hours but I have been there past 5 pm and you can drive in and see the incredible view and the statue.

The monument is honoring the Spanish discoverer , Juan Cabrillo, who was the first Westerner to visit the bay of San Diego. The statue overlooks the bay and the city.
