Margie's Candies, Chicago: 3 reviews and 3 photos
Someone on some forum asked about ice cream in Chicago and I really had to think hard about where to get good ice cream concoctions. There's Ghiradelli near the Mag Mile and a couple of chain outlets like Cold Stone Creamery and Ben & Jerry's. But someone else suggested Margie's Candies and today, when it was 95 in Chicago, was the perfect day to try it.
Margie's is an old fashioned ice cream parlor, opened in 1921 by Margie Poulos, the mother of the current owner. The decor probably hasn't been updated in several decades but I suppose that is part of the charm. Grab a table and sit for a minute, service is speedy.
Favorite Dish: I ordered a Turtle sundae, vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream, caramel and a cherry (no nuts though) which came in a rather funky clam shell dish. It hit the spot!
I wish I had taken a picture of the menu, there were several offerings that looked like they could feed 12!
