The town of Montagnana is of probable Roman origin, given the numerous archaeological findings. In the medieval times it became first the stronghold of Estensi's, then Ezzelino who built the San Zeno Castle, followed by Scaligeri of Verona untill 1337, when the Carrara family from Padova took it back. At that point, the Carrara family equipped the town with wider walls which which still stands around the town. From the beginning of the 15th century, Venice Republic took control of the city.
The walls measure 1950 meters in lenght, with towers of octagonal base perfectly kept.
