The best way to get around subway and buses is to buy or a one day fun-pass metrocard or a 7 day metrocard pass. this is the best as you can use the public transportation system as many times as you wish.
The fare for a subway or local bus ride is $2. The fare for an express bus ride is $5. If you qualify for Reduced Fare, you can travel for half fare. Up to three children 44 inches tall and under ride for free when accompanied by a fare paying adult.
1-Day Fun Pass
Cost: $7, reduced fare not available
Good for unlimited subway and local bus rides from first use until 3 a.m. the following day. Sold at MetroCard Vending Machines and at neighborhood stores. Not available at station booths.
7-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard
Cost: $24, reduced fare $12
Good for unlimited subway and local bus rides until midnight, 7 days from day of first use.
30-Day Unlimited Ride MetroCard
Cost: $76, reduced fare $38
Good for unlimited subway and local bus rides until midnight, 30 days from day of first use. This card is insured against loss when purchased at a vending machine with a credit or debit/ATM card.
You can buy metrocards in subway stations booths, buses and street vans, subway metrocard machines.
