Minnesota Things to Do: 133 reviews and 150 photos

Established in 1927 as a public art gallery, the Walker Art Center has become one of the most important modern art museums in the Upper Midwest. It was not until the 1940s, when a gift from Mrs. Gilbert Walker enabled the museum to acquire works from Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Alberto Giacometti, and others, that the collection focused on modern art. Since then, its collection has expanded to include sculpture, performing arts, film, and video works.

The museum recently went through a major renovation and now offers new galleries, a new shop, a new library, a new state-of-the-art theater, and a refurbished cinema. In addition, there are two restaurants by Wolfgang Puck.

Directions: The Walker Art Center is located at 1750 Hennepin Avenue, just west of downtown Minneapolis.
