"Moving boats around" Dorney Transportation Tip by easyoar

If you have ever wondered how your average rowing boat moves about when it is out of the water, this is how it works. You have to remove all of the rigging (the metal work that holds the oars in place - this is a pain in the butt to do). On a larger boat such as an 8, you have to break the boat in half too (by undoing lots of nuts and bolts). It then has to be secured on to a trailer and is then driven quite slowly back to where it came from. It then needs re-assembling. Consequently a short race that takes a few minutes to complete can take a whole day by the time the trailer has been loaded in the morning. The boat put back together, the race is done, the boat is de-rigged and put back on the trailer etc etc.
