Gran Hotel: "San Jose Hotel" Costa Rica Hotel Tip by antelope01

Costa Rica Hotels: 495 reviews and 694 photos

Old hotel in downtown San Jose. Movie stars and dignitaries stayed there in its heyday. Small restaurant on the first floor. Piano player at night. However, the beds were the hardest I have EVER slept on in my life. You could have rolled off the bed and hit the floor without noticing the difference. The room smelled a little strange and the bathtub really needed a good scrubbing. The hot, wait a second, now it's cold, oh it's hot again water was a little frustrating in the shower. Nice place all in all though. It was less expensive than a hotel by the airport, but it also cost $11 US for a taxi.

Unique Qualities: Historic, inexpensive, decent restaurant, piano player during dinner, helpful staff.

Price Comparison: about average
Directions: Downtown, right next to the National Theatre.
Price: US$80-120
Theme: Hotel
