This memorial sits in the Esplanade Reservoir and is a dedication to Vasco de Gama (1469 - 1525). He was a Portuguese navigator whose sailings linked Europe with the Indian Ocean. This piece or art was a joint effort of John Kirkness, Edgar Nailor and Clare Bailey after inspiration by the strong Portuguese community in the area. The memorial was completed in 1997.
