King Christian IV built Valdemars Slot between 1639 and 1644. It was meant to become a worthy home for Valdemar Christian (1622-1656), the king?s son by his wife Kirsten Munk, but apparently the boy never lived there. Later the manor came into the possession of the noble and powerful Juel family, when admiral Niels Juel bought it for a favorable price from the crown, since when the castle has remained the property of the family. The place has been open to the public from 1974 and it houses three fine museums, two restaurants etc. The main museum is the manor house itself, its interior and art collections from the days of Niels Juel himself.

Address: Slotsalleén 100, Troense. The Island of Tåsinge.
