Monasteries, Crete Island: 14 reviews and 26 photos

Just a few minutes north of Elafonissi, easily visible from the main road, is the monestary of Moni Chrisokalitissa, perched prominently atop a large rocky formation on the rugged coast. I highly recommend stopping by for a quick visit on your way to or from Elafonissi, though the church itself was locked when we were there.

Once a thriving monestary with 200 residents, today it has just a one monk and one nun. Still, it's an interesting little place and well worth your time.
