In contrast to the modern architecture of the shops is what looks like a turkish quarter in the new town - situated between the two bus teminals for the east and west of the island. Here the typical old wooden balconies could be seen, albeit in need of a good lick of paint. This area seemed to have several bar/cafes and numerous launderettes!
