As you read the travel tips that follow you'll understand why I'm listing Paleochora first even though it's the last place I visited on Crete. To give you a better idea of why I liked Paleochora so much, let me explain what I was looking for on Crete. I wanted to stay in a place that had good beaches, good places to eat, good accommodations, and a convenient source of supplies, such as bakeries, markets, etc. I also wanted a place that wasn't overrun with tourists, that was wasn't overpopulated or congested, and that didn't have a lot of traffic, but I wanted it to be close to other things to do so I wasn't stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. Finally, it had to be relatively inexpensive. As it turns out, that describes Paleochora perfectly.
