"Flam" Norway Things to Do Tip by munki

Norway Things to Do: 771 reviews and 1,349 photos

The name Flam means "little place between steep mountains," and at the end of the 1800's many cruise ships packed with travellers found their way here to experience Norwegian fjords, mountains and waterfalls.
Flam village is located at the end of the Aurlandfjord which is a branch of the world?s longest and deepest fjord, the Sognefjord. It is the magnificent mountain scenery was makes this village such a popular destination.
The fact that is one of the most scenic railway trips in the world ends here it helps as well.
The train journey takes about 50 minutes and the train stop a few times so passengers can admire the break taking mountain scenery. On the 20 km-long train ride you can see rivers that cut through deep ravines, waterfalls cascade down the side of steep, snow-capped mountains and mountain farms cling dizzily to sheer slopes.
