  St Nicholas Fort
by sandysmith

At the end pier of Mandraki harbour stands the fort of St Nicholas. This was built in the 15th century as additional defence against the Turks. but is now used as a lighthouse. Inside there is a chapel dedicated to St Nicholas who is the Orthodox patron saint of sailors. Its free entery to go in to the small museum here - something we didn't get round to this time. We just enjoyed the walk over here for the views back to the new town. Plus there was a cat rescue area just by the fort - many cats were sunning themselves on the rocks nearby so they distracted me from the museum ;-0
