The Riley home was built in 1850 by the famed poet's father. The home is lined throughout with black walnut and houses many of the original artifacts that belonged to the Riley household. This is also the home in which Riley received much of his inspiration for his poems. The cost of admission includes a guided tour through the home and the excellent guides will show you where Little Orphan Annie slept, she was a real orphan that came to live with the family, cooking and cleaning in return for room and board. Annie was said to have a big imagination and she told the kids if they had a speck of dirt on them when they walked up the staircase that the goblins would get them. Stories like these gave shape to the amazing poet's works. The home has been amazingly preserved and is definitely a GREAT historical site to see.
