View of the Sea of Tiberias
by TheWanderingCamel

Today this ancient city is known as Um Qais. It is high above the Sea of Tiberias and it was from here that the swine, possessed by demons, rushed into the sea.

It was also the cultural capital of the Middle East in the 2nd century AD.

Today it is largely neglected by tourists, since it lies in the north west corner of Jordan, well away from other tourist sites.

Directions: There is no direct transport from Amman to Um Qais. There is a regular bus service from Irbid If you don't have a car and you want to see Um Qais fairly cheaply, then this is the only way that you can do it.
