"Local Guidence Not a Necessity but Helps" Izamal Favorite Tip by RedEaredPanda

What time is it anyway in Izamal???
by RedEaredPanda

Favorite thing: Originally, we had preparted ourselves for a self guided tour of the city since we had read several tour books on the area and considered ourselves as know it all when we arrived to Izamal, the yellow city.

Meeting Gabriel in the Convent House and using his knowledge of the area, where he was born and has lived all of his life turned out to be a great experience. He was a mild mannered soft spoken local who knew the area like the back of his hand... He helped walked with us through the streets and offered explanations, things we would have missed if we had not met him..

Hence the point of the tip, if you arrive to the city and meet Gabriel, all the best!! But if you seem to run across a guide who speaks your language and can offer explanations for a nominal fee ( Gabriel never asked to be paid; we paid him at the end as we wished), please utilize your resource and we guarantee, you would see things not written in the tour books!!!

What is in the picture is Gabriel using his finger to create a shadow telling the time of the hour based on lines carved on the stone by the mayans!!
