Okay, so imagine you're a Tampa city planner. You have to put the county hospital somewhere - right? Where do you pick:
a) the middle of town - so it's easy to find
b) on a man-made island that's part of a small chain of man-made islands in an area known as "hurrican alley"
c) any place but b
Well, if you picked "b", you're right! The county hospital (the one that can't refuse you if you don't have insurance and the one that the 911 response team will probably take you to if you're not dying . . . right away) is on an island.
When Davis Islands were built, developers pressured the city to build the hospital there. If a hurricane were to hit Tampa, they'd be screwed.
Anyway, a lot of people have gotten confused while trying to go there because they think, "I see this one little dinky blue hospital sign and an arrow, but surely no one would be dumb enough to build a hospital on a FREAKING ISLAND. I'm not going to get on that bridge."
