The only entrance in to the walled town is off the slipway, Grand Rue and it is a steady winding climb upwards to the Abby.

Grand Rue is one cafe, restaurant gift shop after another to accommodate the many visitors.

I was fascintated to learn about the tides here, the difference can be as much as 16 meters between high & low tide, a lot of the time the island is surrounded by miles of endless sand.

There are 4 museums to see on the island, 3 of of them are about the history including a wax works, also one about the home of the warrior Bertrand Du Guesclin.
