"Warburton (Yarra Valley/Dandenongs/The Ranges)" Great Ocean Road Tip by leffe3

Great Ocean Road, State of Victoria: 75 reviews and 177 photos

A former goldrush town, Warburton is now recognised at the region's health retreat, nestled as it is in the foothills of the Dandenongs and the Yarra Valley. (So expect lots of alternative medicine and crystal shops!). It is also in the shadow of Mount Donna Buang (1245 metres) and provides access to the Yarra Ranges National Park. Its actually quite a cute little town and is in a great spot to undertake some serious exploration of the area - Yarra Valley, Yarra Ranges NP, Upper Yarra Reservoir, Bunyip State Park as well as the Dandenongs are all within an hour (or less) of Warburton.

It's also the 'closest' snow spot to Melbourne - Donna Buang peak frequently providing the low enough temperatures needed for the tobogan runs to be supplied with ice and snow.

Directions: South-eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Warrnambool
