The gate leading to main building opens on 10a.m. after the man with special costume beats the drum. Okinawa has some monuments which are registerd as World heritage. Syurijo castle is the most famous among those monuments. "Shurijo Castle Park" For a long time, Okinawa had been independent from Japan. When Okinawa existed as one kingdom, the kings struggled with each other to keep their territory or not to be occupied by another king. In 1429, One King SHOUHASHI ruled whole of Okinawa, and then he started to use Syurijo as the center of politics. Shurijo had fire twice, and every after the accidents it had been repaired. But finally it ruined completely by the world war 2. After the major repair, part of Shurijo was opened for tourists letting them know about culture of Ryukyu and tragicalness of the war.
