  opera box inside Salzburg dom
by hundwalder

The entire interior of Salzburg dom is a Baroque art treasure. The intricate detail is incredible. Relief carving is everywhere. The interior was completed about 350 years ago, which was during the early Baroque era. Only the priveleged and wealthy classes of Salzburg were allowed to worship in the elegance of the dom. The prince archbishop and the other very elite relaxed in their elevated private opera boxes like the one shown in the upper part of this photo, during worship services.

Even lowly commoners like myself are allowed to enjoy the dom interior these days. Yes, the dom is one of the few old European churches where photagraphy is allowed. Leave a donation on the way out for the maintenance and cleaning of this fine old cathedral. You choose the amount.

Guten tag !

Address: Altstadt on south bank of river.
Directions: Very center of Salzburg altstadt. On the domplatz of all places. Imagine that ! The domes and bell towers are visible from all over.
