Palazzo Maffei was built in 1668 in a barocco style where was once standing the Roman capitolium. It is topped by a balustrade supporting six statues of gods and goddesses : Hercules, Jupiter, Venus, Mercure, Apollo, Minerve. Though Hercules is only a half god ! The statue of Hercules was recovered from the digging when the Palazzo was built. It was possibly in the Capitol.
