Arco della Costa (Arch of the Rib) stands between Palazzo del Comune and Domus Nova. It connects Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori. The arch was built in the 15th century. The legend says that it took the name of the first honest person to walk beneath it but another legend says that it is because of the huge whale rib hung underneath ! If you enlarge the photo, you will see it ! It was already mentioned in the middle of the XVIIIth century. Actually, the true story is that there were in that place in the XVIIIth and most probably before, three shops selling spices and at that time, spice shops had often a whale rib as a sign !
