"The Masked Owl" Australia Favorite Tip by keeweechic

Favorite thing: The Masked Owl can be found in a broad coastal band around most of mainland Australia and throughout Tasmania. In some states, they are given a special conservation status as their numbers are low. They can be found in forests, woodlands, timbered waterways and open country which border these areas. They need tall trees with suitable hollows for nesting and roosting as well as nearby areas for foraging. The Owls are territorial and pairs will remain in or near the territory all year round. They feed mainly on small mammals, such as rodents, rabbits and bandicoots although some also prey on possums, reptiles, birds and insects, hunting usually during the early hours of night.
