"Midsumma" Top 5 Page for this destination Festivals and Seasonal Events Tip by leffe3

Midsumma is Melbourne's equivalent of Sydney's Mardi Gras. It certainly doesn't have the glamour of the harbour city festivities, but Midsumma is a 2 week cultural celebration (end of January/beginning of February) of the visual arts, theatre, music, poetry as well as Carnival in Alexander Gardens and Pride March.

The visual arts program is a particularly strong one, with exhibitions taking place all over the city, including, for 2010, Guildford Lane, fortyfivedownstairs, City Library and Platform (all in the city), 69 Smith St, Red Gallery, Tacit Contemporary Art (City of Yarra) and Counihan Gallery.

Dykes on Bikes (pictured - well, half so anyway ;)) traditionally open the Pride March in St Kilda, a march that ends in Catani Gardens, St Kilda with performances, events, beer garden etc...
