"Sigismund Tower inside Wawel Cathedral" Sigismund Chapel - Wawel Cathedral Tip by clairegeordio

  Sigismund Bell, Wawel Cathedral
by clairegeordio

The Sigismund Bell is the most important bell in Poland. It?s sound has been heard during some the most important events and during many religious holidays since 1521. It weighs 18 tons and takes 8 people to ring it. Many legends are also associated with it eg if a girl touches it?s clapper she is said to soon get married and have luck in love. (Well I touched it as I am due to be married this summer!)
There were many narrow stairs to reach the tower, climbing up through the bells and you often had to duck under low beams as well ? joints in the carpentry, which could be a tight squeeze!.
