Transposrtation in Istanbul is cheap and efficient... even getting there is quite convenient: Turkish Airlines is quite affordable and very safe.
Inside the city there are trams and metros to move around - the tram is particularly modern (ultramodern) and cheap... the only place where there's no clear public trasnportation (although there is) is from the airport.
Taxis are quite affrodable but you need to either ask the driver to run the metre, or else agree on a price before you step on it.
There are also several train stations, serving different locations and countries (for Central Europe it's Sirteci station)
