I thought this was a really nice hotel. We were on a package with aitken spence tours, which arrange hotel and private driver. I felt this was one of their nicer properties in which we stayed at. The area is quite wooded and you feel quite isolated from the rest of the world. Rooms are divided into groups by animal or bird(can't remember). We stayed in the kingfisher section. Rooms are quite nice. Not luxurious, but definately comfortable. There are stickers on the windows asking residents to keep them closed, since a monkey could enter. I did see a lot of monkeys outside our room. Plus a mongoose. At night you have to watch out for tiny frogs getting into your bathroom. They are very small, cute and harmless-plus they go after the mozzies. in the evening, the staff will do turndown and put mosquito coils in your room.

For meals, you can do the buffet or a la carte. We did buffet for dinner, which was around 10 usd per person (not including drinks). Have a nice selection of sri lankan food and some western dishes. Some Chinese too. The staff are very friendly and are quite helpful. The only complaint was that i requested an electrical convertor for my phone from the reception and it never arrived.

Sigiriya is an isolated spot. From this hotel you have lovely views of the Lion's rock, which is the highlight of the area. There is no real town here-just shops built for tourists. For meals you are limited to the hotels. From this location-you can use it as a base to discover the other ancient cities in the cultural triangle. One downside, the pool is quite small and not very nice. It's close to the restaurant/bar area.

One silly thing, we noticed at the three aitken spence hotels, we visited they really enjoy playing musak. They have the cheezy music playing in the restaurant or bar. Some sri lankan music or almost anything would be better. They also pipe the music into the rooms, which you can easily turn off.
